For the person who asks for peonies by name and has been waiting a year for them. Camille is here for about three weeks, and then not again until next spring. Peonies and tulips overlap for only a short stretch of the growers’ year, and this bouquet is that overlap: the few weeks both are on the bench at once.

The peonies open enormous, layer on ruffled layer in the softest pink until each head is the size of a hand, and they are the one flower here you smell before you see. Rose-pink tulips, cut longer, stand above them, clean and waxy against all that softness.

They are tied by hand the morning they go out, in whatever pink came in that week. They travel as tight buds on purpose, because a peony cut open never arrives well, and they finish opening over the following days on somebody’s kitchen table.

Available for roughly three weeks, from about 25 October to the middle of November. That window belongs to the growers, not to us, and we don’t stretch it. Outside it, Camille can be pre-ordered for a date inside the season.
